A Bittersweet Day.

04.26.12 I woke up and realized the kids and I had a free day. We quickly decided to drive to Tyler to visit Mamaw. Donna was also free so we agreed to go get Mamaw and wheel her down to the Mexican Restaurant near her assisted living facility. After lunch, we visited in Mamaw's room for a bit. While we were there, Aunt Donna called from Houston to let Mamaw talk to Papaw. When the kids and I were just about home from the hour-long drive, Donna sent word that Papaw had passed away. I was grateful the kids and I had been able to spend time with Mamaw that afternoon.

Update.

I have been unable to update from my phone with pictures... maybe I will have time to work on that next week!

The Red Sox are currently the only UNDEFEATED team in the 7/8 year old league! The boys have both made  big improvements in their playing.

Luke has now caught up to Dade in the battle to see who can lose all their baby teeth first. It seems that when they have loose teeth, they have a better chance of coming out at a friend's house while playing rough!

ELO ended this week. A bittersweet break until the fall -- although Wednesdays are long, we LOVE them!
We have a field trip to the Sheriff's department and fire station, ELO picnic and field day coming up. I will be serving as the Membership Services Coordinator for our group next year and have already started to work on registration.

The book sale is soon which brings up many discussions regarding curriculum choices for the next school year. I have a friend at church who home educates and uses Sonlight. I happen to ask her if she would be interested in selling her third grade materials to me. She called me a few days later to let me know that her and her husband had decided to GIVE it to me instead! WHAT A BLESSING!

Wyatt loves gum. My mom gave each of the kids a pack of Easter {gum} eggs. This morning he walked into the living room chewing a piece. I asked him if he was chewing gum... he nodded. I told him it was okay but not to get any more... he nodded... then lifted his shirtless arm and PULLED AN EGG OUT OF HIS ARMPIT! Luke was sitting on the couch with me and neither one of us could stop laughing!

To continue on the topic of Wyatt... I love how he acts like he has not seen you in years even if has only been fifteen minutes! He will RUN to you and say hi in the most excited voice. He loves to talk on the phone! When we are crossing a road or a parking lot, he says he will hold his own hand and he does! Wyatt is the BEST sleeper! I cannot even remember the last time he woke up during the night and when he is tired, he rarely fights going to sleep. The past two weeks at ELO, he feel asleep on the floor in the middle of the room with six or seven under-2s running around him!

Audrey is such a little lady -- she will notice when I paint my nails, tells me that I smell pretty and asks me about my jewelry. She only wants her hair "straight" and not "twisted" {in a low ponytail and not braided} and has decided she likes her clips on the back of her head like "Joanna at church." She has asked me several times out of the blue when Jesus is coming to get us -- one day she even told me she was going to wear her pink butterfly shirt when Jesus came to get her!

The Spring Parade of Homes is quickly approaching! It has been more of a challenge to make selections for the parade home, but it has been very rewarding to see it all come together. I will take pictures and post them soon on the GCB blog. Tommy has gotten a lot of positive feedback on it and signed a contract on it today!

It was a FULL week -- I had my emergency services department fire commissioners' meeting, was not feeling well, grading and calculating final grades for chemistry class, the birth of my new niece, the loss of a friend's father-in-law, a nephew had surgery, a baseball game, a funeral tomorrow and packing to do for our trip to Great Wolf Lodge. I saw God's perfect timing. Spent time on the back porch with Tommy and the kids watching the stars and wondering about our universe. Observed Dade with his friends learning about our world and loving every minute of it {especially when the Diet Coke erupted from a Mentos}. Held my four year old. Rocked my two year old. Made Resurrection Rolls for breakfast. Marveled as Luke made brownies all by himself! Smiled as Dade went into the library independently to renew his book. Surely, roots grew this week!
